Our “Spraying” training is designed to equip you with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills for operating Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) equipped with spraying systems. This course covers essential aspects from understanding regulations and mission planning to configuring equipment and executing efficient spraying patterns.
Whether your focus is on agricultural applications (e.g., pesticide or fertilizer application), cleaning building facades or roofs, or other industrial spraying tasks, this training provides the basics needed to get started safely and effectively. You will learn about different spraying systems, best practices, and how to analyze and evaluate your spraying missions.
Please note: The actual application of chemicals or other substances is heavily regulated. This course focuses on the operation of spraying drone technology and foundational knowledge. Always adhere to all local, national, and EASA regulations regarding the specific substances being sprayed.
Fundamentals of Drone-Based Aerial Spraying for Agriculture, Cleaning, and Industrial Applications
Course objectives
- To understand the regulations, safety protocols, and best practices specifically for aerial spraying operations with drones.
- To learn how to meticulously prepare an aerial spraying mission, identifying key target areas, product considerations, and environmental factors.

- Valid EU remote pilot certificate A1/A3.

Basic Principles of Aerial Spraying:
- Introduction to spraying basics (nozzles types, spray patterns, product considerations – e.g., liquids, granules).
- Overview of different kinds of spraying applications (e.g., agriculture – pesticides, fertilizers; cleaning – roofs, facades; industrial coatings).
- Market & Application overview for drone spraying.
- Critical Safety and Regulations for spraying flights (environmental protection, product-specific handling if discussed, public safety, buffer zones, drift management).
Flight Planning and Preparation for Spraying Missions:
- Pre-analysis of the mission: defining target area, understanding the surface/crop, product to be applied (and its characteristics if applicable), and critical weather conditions (wind, temperature, humidity).
- Choice of equipment: selecting appropriate drones, spraying systems (tank size, pump capacity), and nozzle types for the task.
- Detailed flight planning for efficient spraying: calculating flight paths, swath width, overlap, flight altitude, and speed for desired application rate.
- Environmental considerations: managing spray drift, identifying sensitive areas, establishing buffer zones, and emergency spill response planning.
Equipment for Aerial Spraying:
- Overview of Drones & Spraying Systems: Tank capacities, pump mechanisms, boom design, types of nozzles (e.g., flat fan, cone), and their characteristics.
- System calibration: Importance and methods for calibrating the spraying system for specific products, desired flow rates, and droplet sizes.
- Maintenance of spraying drones and systems: Cleaning, nozzle checks, pump maintenance.
- Practice Part I: Equipment setup, hands-on with spraying system components, and system calibration exercises (using water or simulated product).
Flight Operation for Spraying:
- Managing operational restrictions (airspace, specific weather minima for spraying, product label instructions if applicable).
- Executing flight paths and techniques for efficient, precise, and uniform spraying coverage.
- Managing liquid payload: effect on flight time, battery endurance, and drone handling. Refilling procedures.
- Emergency procedures specific to spraying operations (e.g., managing spills, system failure, emergency landing with payload).
- Practice Part II: Flight exercises focusing on simulated spraying patterns, maintaining consistent altitude and speed, and managing turns with a spraying drone.
Data Analysis and Mission Evaluation:
- Basic mission data analysis: reviewing flight logs for coverage, applied volume (if metered), and area treated.
- Methods for evaluating spraying effectiveness (e.g., visual checks, use of water-sensitive paper – if discussed/demonstrated).
- Importance of accurate record keeping for spraying operations (regulatory compliance, operational improvement).
Practical content
This course includes significant practical components to build foundational spraying operation skills:
- Practice Part I: Hands-on familiarization with drone spraying systems. This includes setup of tanks, pumps, booms, and nozzles, along with calibration exercises (typically using water).
- Practice Part II: Flight exercises (simulated spraying using water, or dry runs depending on facilities) focusing on executing planned flight paths for even coverage, managing turns, and maintaining consistent application parameters.
- Introduction to pre-operation checks and post-operation cleaning and maintenance of spraying equipment.
