EU Remote Pilot Certificate A2

This EU Remote Pilot Certificate (A2) Training is designed for Remote Pilots who already hold an A1/A3 certificate of competency and wish to obtain their A2 subcategory rating.

The A2 certificate allows for more complex operations within the EASA Open Category, such as flying closer to uninvolved people under specific conditions. This course builds upon your existing knowledge with advanced topics crucial for these types of operations.

Course objectives

  • Understand the meteorological influences on unmanned aircraft operations.
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of UAS flight performance, mass and balance, and payload security.
  • Learn and apply ground risk mitigation techniques, including slow flight mode and distance assessment.
  • Successfully prepare for and pass the official A2 theoretical examination.
  • Be competent to operate UAS safely in the A2 subcategory, allowing flights closer to uninvolved persons.

Prerequisites

-Valid EU remote pilot certificate A1/A3.
-Completion of practical self-training in UAS operations (as per EASA guidelines for A2).

Syllabus

MODULE 1: METEOROLOGY

  • Weather influences on the operation of an unmanned aircraft
  • Wind (e.g. urban effects, turbulence, etc.)
  • Temperature, air density
  • Obtaining weather forecasts

MODULE 2: FLIGHT PERFORMANCE AND NAVIGATION

  • Typical operating range of unmanned aircraft in the rotary wing, fixed wing and hybrid configuration categories
  • Mass and balance, center of gravity
  • Securing the payload
  • Batteries / rechargeable batteries

MODULE 3: GROUND RISK MITIGATIONS

  • Functions in slow flight mode
  • Assessment of the distance to people
  • 1:1 Rule

Practical content

This course covers theoretical knowledge. The A2 subcategory requires remote pilots to complete a practical self-training program according to EASA regulations. Competency in this practical self-training is declared by the pilot before taking the A2 theoretical exam.

Exam & assessment

HOW THE EXAM WORKS

Questionnaire

  • The test contains 30 multiple choice questions.
  • If 75% of these questions are answered correctly, the exam is considered passed.
  • The remote pilot must confirm practical knowledge acquired through independent practice in UAS.
  • Examination dates must be booked beforehand with IDA Finland.
  • You will receive your result immediately after the test.

Certificate

  • After completing the test, you will receive your result and certificate in PDF format.
  • The certificate will also be sent to the email address you provided.
  • The certificates are valid in the EU, and in many countries around the world.
  • Certificates are valid for five years, after which the theoretical knowledge acquired must be refreshed.
