This hands-on training focuses on the unique features, settings, flight characteristics, maintenance requirements, and emergency procedures of your chosen UAS model. We cover a wide range of common professional systems and can often tailor training for other manufacturer’s drones as well.

As this training is highly practical and system-specific, you will typically use your own drone and accessories, allowing you to learn directly on the equipment you’ll be deploying. This ensures the skills you acquire are immediately transferable to your professional operations.

  • Become proficient in operating any integrated or common payloads and accessories for the UAS type.
  • Enhance overall flight safety and operational efficiency on the specific UAS model.

Prerequisites

- A valid EASA remote pilot certificate relevant to the intended operation of the UAS (e.g., A1/A3, A2, STS, RPCT).
- Participants are generally required to bring their own UAS (drone model and accessories) for the training. Please confirm if a training model can be provided if you do not have your own.
- Sufficient batteries for the participant's own drone.

Syllabus

The syllabus is tailored to the specific UAS model. A general structure includes:

I. UAS System In-Depth Review:

  • Airframe, components, and design specifics.
  • Propulsion system (motors, propellers, ESCs).
  • Power system (batteries, charging, power distribution).
  • Ground Control Station (GCS): controller layout, telemetry display, antennas.
  • Command and Control (C2) link specifics.
  • Integrated and common payloads/sensors for the type.

II. Setup, Configuration, and Maintenance:

  • Assembly and disassembly (if applicable).
  • Software/App walkthrough: detailed menu navigation, parameter settings.
  • Calibration procedures (IMU, compass, gimbal, etc.).
  • Firmware update procedures.
  • Routine maintenance checks, cleaning, and component inspection.
  • Battery management: charging, storage, health monitoring specific to type.

III. Flight Operations and Procedures:

  • Type-specific pre-flight checklists and site setup.
  • Understanding and utilizing all flight modes (e.g., GPS, ATTI, Sport, specialized modes).
  • Flight characteristics and performance envelope of the specific model.
  • Operating specific payloads and sensors (e.g., camera settings, RTK GPS, thermal).
  • Type-specific emergency procedures (e.g., handling lost C2 link, GPS loss, motor out, low battery warnings, parachute deployment).
  • Post-flight procedures and data downloading.

IV. Practical Flight Exercises:

  • Hands-on flight practice focusing on maneuvers, feature utilization, and emergency handling relevant to the UAS type.

Supported Systems (Examples): Training available for DJI M300/350, DJI Phantom 4 Pro RTK, various DJI Enterprise products, DJI Inspire series, DJI M600, Flyability Elios series, Autel EVO series, Walkera, Parrot, Yuneec, and other systems by arrangement.

Practical content

This course is heavily weighted towards practical, hands-on experience with the specific UAS model. Participants will engage in:

  • Detailed physical inspection and setup of their drone.
  • Navigating and configuring all system settings via the GCS/app.
  • Performing all necessary calibrations.
  • Extensive flight exercises to practice various flight modes, maneuvers, and payload operations.
  • Responding to simulated type-specific emergencies under instructor guidance.
  • Practicing routine maintenance and battery care procedures.

The training utilizes the participant's own drone and accessories to maximize relevance and learning.

Exam & assessment

Assessment for UAS Type Training typically involves:

  • Continuous observation by the instructor during practical exercises.
  • A practical skills assessment where the pilot demonstrates competency in operating the specific UAS model safely and proficiently through various maneuvers and scenarios, including emergency procedures.
  • A theoretical knowledge check on system specifics may also be included.

Successful completion leads to a Certificate of Completion for the specific UAS type.
